About

Hi! I'm Maxine. Thanks so much for visiting my pop culture blog -- I hope you enjoy your stay. This blog is meant to be a little tongue-in-cheek, a little too earnest, a little cynical, a little deluded, and a lot of fun. This blog is a celebration of all things bubblegum pop (and beyond), of the '90s, the '80s, the noughties ('00s), boy bands, bad pop music, good pop music, the best of the ridiculous. It's for people who have a lot of guilty pleasures, and it might even be for the future cougars of the world (TBD).

If you're in your teens and are a serious fan of any of the people mentioned on my blog, I have three "disclaimers" for you:
1. I'm a fan too, honest
2. … but maybe not the same kind of fan as you.
3. it gets easier

A little about me …
I love music. And pop culture. I tried to deny it for a while and do practical, sensible things (like run a "lifestyle" blog, which you can check out here), but it's undeniable: the thirteen-year-old in me needs an outlet to squeal and ramble about amusing tidbits found on YouTube and live television. I have been running websites since the age of 13 and blogging since 15. In college, I majored in English and Psychology, hoping to hit the ground running as a magazine journalist … and then as an online journalist, but that dream never came into fruition. It was also while in college that I began running "The Glitteratini," a pop culture blog which kept me grounded in my American roots even when I spent a year studying in England. (Oddly enough, all I want to do now is return to England.) I've worked previously at MTV, Nickelodeon, and in cable news.

Why "thirteen again"?
I don't know about you, but everything started for me on the cusp of thirteen. Thirteen was the summer I plopped my behind in front of MTV and didn't get up until September. Plus, for some reason, I can't seem to give a damn about the Brads and Angelinas of the world, but you can bet I know Jordan Knight's full name and the number of tattoos Harry Styles has (actually, I don't, but I'm not sure he can keep count himself). Call it a sickness, an inability to grow out of it … but I love youth culture.

Who was your first celebrity crush?
The first few male celebrities I took an interest in were (in no particular order because I was simply too young and I actually have no idea what order they came in): Jonathan Brandis and Andrew Shue, among others. My first huge celebrity crush was so very typical of a girl in the early '90s … Mark-Paul Gosselaar. Or, more precisely, Zack Morris. After that, my next big (and pretty much everlasting) crush was on Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys. I was pretty big on the blondes back then, but these days I'm crushing (less hard) on Jordan Knight and Harry Styles of One Direction (a 24 year spread lies between them, cripes).

Favorite TV shows?
"Kids, Incorporated" from the Disney Channel, "Saved By The Bell", "Full House" were favorites when I was a kid. So were "Bewitched" and "The Brady Bunch." As a teen and beyond, "Gilmore Girls," "Friday Night Lights," "Happy Endings" and your odd reality show.
